Contraception

Depending on the type of contraceptive that you have been using, you may have to wait some time after you have stopped using it before you can become pregnant. The different types of contraceptives and their affect on your fertility are discussed below

The Pill

Condoms

Natural Methods

Sterilisation

Diaphragm & Cervical Cap

Intrauterine Device

The Pill

You should complete one complete cycle before giving up the pill. Some doctors recommend that you wait until your normal menstruation cycle returns before trying for a baby, while others believe you can start trying straight away.

Condoms

Condoms do not affect your fertility, so it is just a case of not using one when you want to become pregnant.

Natural Methods

Like condoms, natural methods of contraception do not affect your fertility, so just stop using them when you want to become pregnant.

Sterilisation

Sterilisation is the most difficult form of contraception to reverse. Reversals are sometimes possible, but the are serious operations. Anyone who thinks they may want to have children in the future should not opt for this form of contraception.

Diaphragm & Cervical Cap

Like condoms, Diaphragm & Cervical Cap do not affect your fertility, so just stop using them when you want to become pregnant.

Intrauterine Device

You must schedule an appointment with your doctor to have it removed. It is usually removed during a period, you can start trying after your next period.
