It may be the most important day of your daughters life and you may want to have as much input as possible to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible, but sometimes being mother of the bride, means you have to take a back seat, make sure that you daughter knows that you are there for help and advice if she wants it, then just wait until you are asked. Like we said , this is your daughters day - not yours!

You should get to know the other members of the wedding group before the big day, get to know the bridesmaids, grooms men, the future husbands parents and family. Your input into the shower and celebrations is valuable because you know your daughter better than anyone.

Be as supportive as you can be. The time before your daughter's wedding will be extremely stressful for her. If you can keep focused on her needs, as opposed to your own (not that we are diminishing the level of your own stress), you will be giving for the greatest gift. Much as you would like to be an active participant, and is difficult as it may be, try limiting the number of phone calls to your daughter, especially as the event grows near. Make sure she knows that your support is available if and when she needs it - that is the job of the mother of the bride.

A few more practical tips -
Once the bride has selected her color scheme, it will be up to the mother of the bride to select an outfit which not only matches in color, but also in the style of the wedding. More often than not, the groom's mother will select an outfit not identical to the mother of the bride's, but in a coordinating color. In a church wedding, traditionally, the mother of the bride is the last to be seated before the ceremony (in the front left pew) and the first to rise as the couple start down the aisle. The mother of the bride is also the first to be ushered out after the ceremony.

And most importantly enjoy the day!
