The relationship between son or daughter and parent is a unique relationship. Here, we will concentrate on the daughter side of things. There are many aspects of a mother-daughter relationship or father which may not be as obvious in a mother-son relationship.

Many people believe this to be due to our historical perception of the role of women in our lives. Many people grew up with a traditional setup where women were home-makers and men were bread-winners. This may have an effect on our perception of the role of our own daughters. We may wish to follow that tradition or we may wish to rebel against it.

In the majority of cases, people will treat a son differently to a daughter. A son will be dressed in masculine clothes, be given male orientated toys to play with e.g. tractors, footballs etc., whereas a daughter will be dressed in feminine colours and are given dolls,, kitchen sets etc to play.

Its not clear whether boys are genetically attracted to the masculine activities and objects or whether the fact that we feed the situation by placing a boy in a masculine environment and a girl in a feminine environment.

What is clear is the environment should be loving and caring and if it is, the happiness you can get from your daughter will be worth it.
